Innal hamda Lillaahi nahmaduhu wa nasta’eenahu wa nastaghfiruhu, wa na’oodhu billaahi min shuroori anfusinaa wa min sayi’aa ti a’maalinaa. Man yahdih Illaahu falaa mudilla lahu wa man yud lil falaa haadiya lah. Wa ashhadu an laa ilaaha il llaah wahdahu la sharika lahu wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasooluhu.

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the One, with no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

O ye who believe! Be conscious of Allah as He should be, and die not except in the state of Islam.Allah will direct you to righteous deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messanger has indeed achieved a great achievement.

InshaAllah today i will speak briefly about an issue that affects us Muslims and our communities. I will speak about the traps that sometimes stops us from rational thinking and even affects how we present Islam to the general public. I will not elaborate my points, to give all of us a chance to think and ponder upon the points.

The first trap of a lot of Islamists and Muslims everywhere: if anything is wrong or problematic, blame it on the America, the Jews or the "West". Even if the problem is very much our own creations or has no relationship whatsoever with these 'evil powers'.
This is very common among us, that everythng is sometimes blamed on the conspiracy of the Jews, the American or the West.

The second trap of the Muslims and Islamists everywhere is trying to force their versions/interpretations of Islam on other people; verbally, intellectually, politically and sometimes literally i.e through violence or terrorist acts.
A sad example is what is happening in Somalia currently. Groups operating under the name of Islam wants Islam to be upheld, but their ways is by attacking and killing innocent people. This is a very sad situation.
The third trappings of Muslims and Islamists; seeing the world in the perspective "us versus them" never "us with them". Anyone who has not the same ideologies, faiths or beliefs to us, they are the enemies and we have to wage "holy war" against them. Wahhhabis/Salafis versus Traditionalists/Sufis, Sunni versus Shia, Muslim versus Christian, Jews, Hindus etcetra etcetra.
We knows the existence of the ayah "O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who conscious of God. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware." Quran 49:13

The fourth traps of a Muslim and Islamists; Giving undue and excessive importance on outward appearances. We end up having people who have the looks and appearance of a good Muslim but with Jahiliyyah (unIslamic) manners.
We have to constantly remind ourselves on the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (ra):

The Messenger of Allah (sa) said, “Undoubtedly, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but rather He looks at your hearts and actions.” Then he pointed with his fingers to his chest.
[Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Number 6220]

The fifth and the most contentious trap on a lot of Muslims from all over the world, thinking that imposing the Sharia, i.e the laws of Allah in the(ir) countries is the solution to all problems.
It is true, every Muslims in the world wants the Sharia to be upheld, but by imposing Sharia does not necessary mean all problems will be solved.

If you do not have a viable economic policies, you can't build a prosperous country by only relying on Sharia and the will of Allah.
If you dont have any steps to increase food production in your country, you will find it difficult to bring the country out of famine. Allah has said in te Quran; He will never change the conditions of a country until they themselves change it.

Again, my khutba is first and foremost a reminder for myself, and if it benefits all of us, all praises be to Allah. May Allah strengthens the Muslim community all over the world amin.

Allahumma barik ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala ali Muhammad, kama sallaiyta ‘ala Ibrahim wa ‘ala ali Ibrahim, innaka Hamidun Majeed.
Rabbana athina fiddunya hasanah wa fil akhirati hasanah wa kina azabannar.Aqimis sollah.
